This is a Full-Time, Non-Bargaining, Exempt position with a salary rate of $67,275 - $90,563.
The individual in this position will work in the Water Treatment Plant located at 301 College Street, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33460.

About the Role:
The Water Treatment Specialist/Chief Operator plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of water treatment facilities. This position is responsible for overseeing the treatment processes that provide clean and safe water to communities, industries, or municipal systems. The role involves managing daily operations, troubleshooting system issues, and implementing process improvements to optimize water quality and operational efficiency. The Chief Operator also ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to water treatment and environmental safety. Additionally, this position leads and mentors a team of operators and technicians, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Valid Water Treatment Operator Certification at the appropriate level as required by the state of employment.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in water treatment plant operations, including supervisory or lead operator experience.
- Strong knowledge of water treatment processes, equipment, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including on-call and emergency response duties.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or related technical field.
- Advanced certifications such as Grade IV Water Treatment Operator or equivalent.
- Experience with SCADA systems and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams within a water treatment or environmental services setting.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and environmental health and safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of water treatment plants to ensure optimal performance and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Conduct routine inspections, monitor water quality parameters, and adjust treatment processes as necessary to maintain water safety and quality.
- Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain continuous water supply.
- Maintain accurate records of operational data, maintenance activities, and regulatory compliance documentation.
- Lead, train, and supervise a team of water treatment operators and technicians, promoting best practices and safety protocols.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies during inspections and reporting to ensure adherence to environmental and safety regulations.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to extend equipment life and reduce operational costs.
- Participate in emergency response planning and execution related to water treatment facility incidents.
