This Senior Utilities Accountant position is full-time, non-bargaining (non-exempt) position is based on a 40-hour work week with a pay rate of $29.3582.

This position will work at Utilities Building located at 120 N Federal Hwy #104, Lake Worth, FL 33460.

JOB SUMMARY:

This is a supervisory position providing leadership and support to a team of customer service representatives and staff in the Customer Service Division. This role involves analyzing financial data and preparing reports. The successful candidate will be detail oriented with experience in accounting principles and a proactive approach to adapting new technology. The candidate should be well versed in the preparation of financial reports. A high degree of communication and interpersonal skill is required. Work is performed under limited supervision and is reviewed for performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the daily Customer Service accounting functions
  • Works closely with the Finance department.
  • Responds to and initiates written customer correspondence regarding payments, adjustments, and complaints, with respect to utility services or other City of Lake Worth Beach concerns.
  • Provides expertise in dealing with complex customer situations, through the implementation and maintenance of an effective program of customer and public relations.
  • Investigates and researches customer accounts and makes billing adjustments and account debits as needed.
  • Reviews cash receipt reports, reconciles and balances receipts, prepares daily cash deposits.
  • Analyze and process customer refunds, Bank Draft and Collection Accounts
  • Assist in the yearly budget and audits.
  • Supervise, review and evaluate new programs coming online, new credit card processing and Click-to-Gov.
  • Prepare and update monthly information for rate studies, budget or other purposes.
  • Review the accuracy of fees collected for all transactions taken in the department.
  • Reviews and submits monthly and yearly reports.
  • Responsible for department purchasing functions.
  • Change and update rates for Utilities and Waste rates when changes occur.
  • Leader in Customer Service Department for new construction, demos, hydrant meters, new addresses and locations. Includes direct contact with builders, contractors and customers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coaches in job performance, judgment, customer care, and reviews errors for improved performance.
  • Prepares, monitors and recommends operational objectives; compiles and submits various training reports, records and logs.
  • Works with other employees, including department directors and division managers.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as necessary, to provide operational effectiveness.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of utility customer service principles and functions.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to plan, review, delegate, and schedule workload of direct reports.
  • Knowledge of research and analysis principles and functions.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to utilize excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and employees.
  • Ability to understand complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with sensitivity to the needs of others in all aspects of written and oral communication.
  • Ability to adjust quickly to rapidly changing priorities and multiple demands effectively.
  • Ability/willingness to perform work to support the vision, mission, values and goals of the department.
  • Ability/willingness to create and support a safe work environment.
  • Performs other duties within the Customer Service Division as may be assigned.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration or related field, supplemented by (2) years of experience in the delivery and coordination of customer service functions or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that is determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:

Valid State of Florida driver's license.

All full-time employees are considered critical in response to emergency situations and may be deemed essential as needed depending on the situation.

Employees in this position will be required to complete the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) Certification Levels 100, 200, 700 and 800 within the first six months of employment. Certain positions may be required to attain additional ICS training as needed.
