The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Library Manager.

This is a full-time, non-bargaining, exempt Library Manager position based on a 40-hour workweek, with an annual salary range of $67,275 - $90,563. The individual in this position will be stationed at the Leisure Services Library located at 15 North M Street, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33460.

JOB SUMMARY:

The primary purpose of this position is to serve the people of this community through the effective management of the Library and the development of programs supporting Literacy in the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs Library planning function including Long Range Plan, Annual Plan of Service.
  • Designs Library procedures to effectively implement planning goals.
  • Administers and evaluates Library programs and services in light of planning goals.
  • Directs the development of the library materials collection, physical and electronic.
  • Prepares the Library budget and defends budget requests.
  • Directs and controls the expenditure of Library funds.
  • Partners with Leisure Services entities and other City Departments to support City objectives.
  • Cooperates with other libraries, agencies, corporations, and community groups to expand literacy services.
  • Prepares statistical reports.
  • Directs promotional activities.
  • Directs the training of Library staff.
  • Directs personnel actions including hiring, termination, assignment, evaluation, and labor relations.
  • Works to resolve City problems and complaints regarding the library or its staff.
  • Represents the Library and serves as the City’s authority on library and literacy related issues.
  • Research and write grant proposals.
  • Evaluates the Library materials collection in light of community needs.
  • Directs the purchase, withdrawal, and inventory of materials.
  • Assigns duties, defines staff positions, and administers wages.
  • Promotes staff development.
  • Acts as liaison to Friends of the Library and the Library Advisory Board.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Master’s Degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university.
  • Five years of library experience including three years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Extensive knowledge of public library administration and operation.
  • Demonstrated administrative and supervisory abilities.
  • Ability to operate within limited resources.
  • Oral and written communication skills. Including the ability to read and understand statistical reports, write reports and grant proposals.
  • Confident in speaking effectively to large and small groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, associates, and the general public.
  • Experience using computer hardware, software, office equipment, the Internet, and social media.
  • Demonstrated decision making ability based on data, observation, and institutional goals.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Willingness to cover any staff position as the need arises.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:

  • Push/pull materials on carts weighing over 100 lbs.
  • Perform various repetitive actions and use of terminals and keyboards, requiring the use of hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Climb steps while carrying materials. (The library has 3 floors and a basement, no elevator.)
  • Use vision, vocal communication, and hearing.
  • Stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasional moderate lifting and carrying (20+ lbs.) and infrequent heavy lifting (up to 25 lbs.)
  • Normal library working conditions; moderate exposure to office/maintenance chemicals.

All full-time employees are considered critical in response to emergency situations and may be deemed essential as needed depending on the situation.

Employees in this position will be required to complete the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) Certification Levels 100, 200, 700 and 800 within the first six months of employment. Certain positions may be required to attain additional ICS training as needed.
