General Description of Duties and Responsibilities The Middle and High School Band Director will oversee the middle and high school instrumental program, including recruiting and retaining students, rehearsals, and quarterly performances. The band teacher will seek to build a strong musical tradition throughout middle and high school. Essential Job Requirements - Serve as a spiritual role model to students, parents, faculty, and staff while demonstrating the fruits of a Spirit-controlled life found in Galatians.
- Build a cohesive instrumental program focusing on fundamental instrumental skills and musicianship and providing performance opportunities.
- Completes appropriate musical selection, facility requests, communication to Band families, transportation requests, rehearsal schedule, program needs, and technology needs for the following events:
- Fall Band Concert & Homecoming Pep Rally (in collaboration with HS Administration)
- HS Christmas Concert (in collaboration with MS/HS Choir & Theatre Director and HS Art Teacher)
- MS Christmas Concert (in collaboration with MS/HS Choir & Theater Director, and MS Art Teacher) MS & HS Spring Concerts (in collaboration with MS/HS Choir Director and MS/HS Art Teachers)
- Seek to provide performance opportunities within the school and community to raise awareness and enjoyment of the performance arts program at JCS e.g. Music USA Festival or Festival
- Responsible to teach 5 sections representing a combination of the following grades: Middle School Band (5th – 8th) / High School Band (9th – 12th)
- Responsible for collaborating with MS principal and preparing musical selections for the following schoolwide events: Veterans Day
- Provide weekly lesson plans from a Biblical lens and with clear objectives and rehearsal strategies
- Apply a variety of instructional techniques and musical repertoire appropriate for the ages and skill level of students
- Evaluate student performance and growth in knowledge and understanding while preparing regular progress reports and grades.
- Attend department, division, staff development meetings, curriculum development planning and other professional activities as directed by principal
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Be comfortable in a multi-tasking environment
- Maintains FMEA membership and submits for PD coverage through Title funds
- Tracks expenses for Band program independently and provides monthly reports and receipts to MS Principal
- Leads a minimum of two fundraisers in collaboration with Advancement and Principals to support student activity and/or program needs
Qualifications Spiritual: - Must have a clear testimony of personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior
- Must be able to demonstrate active membership and involvement in an evangelical local church
Education: - Required: Bachelor’s degree in music education
- Preferred: Master’s degree in music education and a valid Florida teaching certificate or reciprocity from another state
Experience - Required 3+ years of experience leading MS or HS band program
- Preferred: 8+ years of experience leading MS and HS band programs in Christian school settings
Required Skills - Must have instrumental involvement and experience leading instrumental groups
- Must be a skilled musician with proficiency in multiple instruments.
- Must have the ability to play multiple instruments
- Must have strong conducting skills
- Must have strong excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Must be highly organized
- Must have the ability to organize and implement daily lesson plans, performance programs and cast long term vision planning.
- Must have the knowledge and proficiency with music writing software
- Knowledge and proficiency with music mixing, editing, basic sound equipment set up and technology integration is preferred.
- Proficient in using a computer, fax and copy machine.
