Full job description
The Assistant Director of Education supports the Director of Education in the administration and
operations of the Education Department. This role leads the design and delivery of creative
educational programs, lessons, and workshops aligned with current exhibitions and relevant
events, while ensuring compliance with grant requirements and organizational standards. This
position serves as a key support role in departmental leadership, including overseeing operations
in the Director's absence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily management and administration of the Education Department, serving
as acting department lead in the Director's absence.
- Develop, prepare, and deliver educational programs, including classes, homeschool
curricula, outreach programs, and teacher in-service content.
- Instruct students and participants to enhance their understanding of scientific concepts;
integrate emerging technologies such as AI, robotics, drones, VR/AR, and digital
fabrication into programming.
- Coordinate and manage the annual Engineer It event and represent the Education
Department at community meetings and public engagements.
- Proactively research, propose, and develop new programming concepts aligned with
current trends, community needs, and revenue opportunities; identify and pursue fee'based program opportunities including workshops, ticketed events, and partnership
initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Director to evaluate program performance and recommend
enhancements based on audience feedback and financial outcomes.
- Ensure grant-funded programs are executed in compliance with donor guidelines and
maintain required documentation; track and manage educational supply inventory.
- Develop and standardize departmental procedures, workflows, and best practices to
support consistency, staff continuity, and onboarding.
- Lead professional development for education and booking staff in instructional strategies,
including classroom management, inquiry-based learning, differentiation, and behavior
management.
- Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures; perform other duties as assigned to
support the mission and goals of the Education Department.

- Strong instructional and classroom management skills with the ability to engage diverse
audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to develop original program ideas with an entrepreneurial mindset
toward audience growth and earned revenue.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to interact effectively with students,
educators, community partners, and colleagues.
- Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities; comfortable working
independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to identify inefficiencies and contribute to process improvement within a
dynamic, program-driven environment.
- Energetic, creative, and engaging personality with a commitment to the mission and
vision of the Center.
Certifications, Licenses, and Education
- Bachelor's degree in STEM or related field required.
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience.
- Valid Class D driver's license required.
- Demonstrated interest in public education and advancing the Center's mission and vision.
Work Environment and Expectations
- Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds as needed.
- Combination of office, classroom, and program floor environments.
- Frequent interaction with the public, volunteers, and educators.
