Job Description:

The Martins lab is looking for a self-driven Research Technician with strong work ethics and high attention to detail to help develop immune interventions aimed at preventing or controlling HIV infection in a nonhuman primate model of HIV/AIDS research. Candidates with a background in molecular biology and immunology will be given preference. The successful applicant will be expected to work under general supervision, independently and in collaboration with others; perform research for projects and provide interpretation and initial analysis of results; investigate, troubleshoot and modify methods and procedures; assist in designing experiments; perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Designing and setting up experiments for expressing and purifying recombinant proteins.
  • Designing and setting up assays (e.g., ELISA) for quantifying proteins in various solutions, tissue culture supernatant, and/or biological specimens.
  • Thawing, cryopreserving, and maintaining primary cells and/or immortalized cell lines in culture.
  • Analysis and interpretation of data, including graphing results using various software, preparing reports, and presenting results through slides and/or written reports.
  • Preparing/receiving/sending shipments containing biological specimens.
  • Placing orders, including negotiating with vendors, editing quotes, and preparing an inventory of items received.
  • Participating in meetings as both listener and presenter.
  • Checking the status of equipment around the lab.
  • Bookkeeping, including recording the details and results of experiments in lab notebooks.
Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with tissue culture is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred:
  • B.S. or B.A. in Biology/Microbiology/Biochemistry or related field is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, presentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and troubleshoot experiments.
  • Keep accurate records and follow protocol instructions with great attention to detail.
  • Experience with immunological and biochemistry assays (e.g., ELISA, flow cytometry, protein expression and purification) is highly desirable.
