In 2018, Michelle R. Suskauer was sworn in as the 70th President of The Florida Bar, becoming only the sixth woman and the first former public defender ever to hold this prestigious position. Leading an organization of over 110,000 attorneys and legal professionals throughout the state of Florida, her tenure was defined by bold advocacy and meaningful change. Michelle convened summits on criminal justice reform and gender equity, and launched initiatives to improve mental‑health and wellness in the legal profession. Serving on the Bar’s Board of Governors for seven years and chairing multiple key committees (Disciplinary Review, Communications, Strategic Planning), Michelle traveled to nearly all of Florida’s 20 circuits, allowing her to forge valuable connections with legal professionals throughout Florida's criminal justice system. Michelle’s long track record of statewide leadership and community service has led to strong relationships and respect from local judges, prosecutors, law enforecement, and criminal‑defense peers in courtrooms and circuits throughout the state.
