Position Summary

The Field Services Engineer – Caribbean Region acts as Suffolk’s main representative for technology service delivery and support in the area. Based at the St. Thomas regional office, this role will also have a presence at all project sites across St. Thomas and St. Croix, with expansion to additional regional sites and offices as they become operational. As a permanent position with opportunities for career advancement, it is a key part of Suffolk’s global Field Engineering team, serving as the primary IT partner for the Caribbean region.

The engineer takes pride in delivering dependable frontline IT services, supporting team needs, and ensuring technology is prepared for the jobsite. They work diligently to sustain excellent regional network performance and collaborate closely with both local and mainland teams to enhance safety and efficiency on projects. Having a strong cultural understanding, knowledge of regional technology providers, and the confidence to work independently in construction environments are valuable strengths for this role.

Responsibilities

Regional Technology Operations

  • Serve as the primary IT representative for St. Thomas and St. Croix initially, with plans to expand to the broader region as regional growth occurs.
  • Assist with regional office operations and enable job-site technology needs, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently.
  • Deliver high-quality service across the regional technology ecosystem, including endpoints, networks, cloud services, and construction technologies.
  • Collaborate closely with the central Service Delivery & Support team to manage escalations and ensure our enterprise services are aligned and operate smoothly.

Jobsite Technology Enablement

  • Deploy and maintain jobsite technology, including networks, A/V equipment, and endpoints.
  • Manage field communications, terrestrial connectivity, Wi-Fi, cellular backup systems, and satellite links to ensure reliable connectivity.
  • Assist with mobilization and demobilization efforts alongside mainland surge teams and third parties to ensure smooth coordination and seamless operations.
  • Ensure job sites are well-equipped to enable seamless real-time collaboration, cloud-based workflows, and the latest construction technology platforms.

Network, Connectivity & Infrastructure

  • Actively participate in evaluating and selecting ISPs and maintain positive relationships with providers and vendors.
  • Collaborate with corporate teams on telecom procurement, configuration, and pricing.
  • Configure and support firewalls, switches, wireless access points, and cellular or satellite failover systems.
  • Ensure alignment with Suffolk’s enterprise architecture, security controls, and zero-trust standards.

Vendor, Agency & Community Coordination

  • Work with USVI agencies, including WAPA, DPW, Port Authority, and viNGN.
  • Collaborate closely with regional Joint Venture partners, providing additional services as needed and approved.
  • Build trusted relationships with subcontractors, trades, and community partners.

Resiliency, Disaster Recovery & Continuity

  • Support physical and digital critical event preparedness, disaster recovery, and continuity of operations (COOP) activities.
  • Prepare IT systems for severe weather and coordinate recovery efforts.

Asset, Logistics & Field Operations Management

  • Oversee technology inventory, spare parts, and equipment lifecycle.
  • Handle shipping, receiving, customs clearance, and equipment transportation.
  • Support technology requirements for employee housing owned by Suffolk, if applicable.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, procedures, and assets.

User Support & Training

  • Provide white-glove support to senior executives and visiting corporate leadership.
  • Participate in tech onboarding for operations field teams.
  • Promote the effective use of Suffolk’s digital tools and construction technologies.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in fast-paced, high-stress situations

Qualifications

Required

  • Over 5 years of experience in IT support, network operations, or a similar field.
  • Experience working in the Caribbean, US Territories, or comparable settings.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows OS, Microsoft 365, Teams, and Azure fundamentals.
  • Proficiency with firewalls, switches, wireless access points, endpoints, and audiovisual systems.
  • Experience with LTE/5G modems, satellite systems, and related technologies.
  • Strong understanding of LAN/WAN, SDN, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and VPN technologies.
  • Experience operating under NIST, ITGC, and zero-trust standards.
  • Ability to handle logistics, vendor coordination, and procurement in resource-limited environments.
  • Ability to work independently and make strong operational decisions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate technology-related topics with non-technical colleagues
  • Cultural fluency working in Caribbean environments.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and operate safely in active jobsite conditions.

Preferred

  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Revit, or VDC/BIM tools.
  • Experience with USVI government agencies, utilities, or telecom providers.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+; CCNA, or Microsoft fundamentals level credentials.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. Compensation Information

The expected salary range for this position (IT Field Services Engineer) in USVI is between $76,000 and $103,000 USD. This represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Suffolk’s total compensation package. Actual salaries may be based on several factors including, but not limited to, skill set, experience, education and other qualifications. Suffolk offers a comprehensive benefits package as part of its overall compensation strategy. Salary ranges may differ by geography and are reviewed regularly to reflect market trends.
