Position Summary:
Under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Operations, in accordance with scheduled or periodic instructions, performs skilled and semi-skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, painting, pressure washing, minor electrical repair and renovation/alteration of buildings and structures.
- Assemble, repair and install structures on campus, performing quality work and practicing work safety at all times.
- Notify supervisor of emergencies and safety concerns immediately.
- Provide emergency on-call service for after-hours emergencies.
- Safely operate power equipment, power tools, school owned vehicles and powered utility carts while performing assigned duties.
- Remove debris and trash.
- Fuel school vehicles.
- Maintain equipment in proper working condition – reporting defects to proper personnel.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance duties such as filter changes on HVAC units, lubrication, and general upkeep of mechanical systems.
- Conduct routine, storm-related, and after-hours inspections of facilities, reporting findings (malfunctions, hazards, or damages) promptly to supervisors.
- Perform maintenance duties such as painting, pressure cleaning, changing light bulbs, moving furniture and other objects, keeping all directional and traffic signs clean, removing rust stains from buildings and sidewalks as necessary and assisting other maintenance staff as needed with other related duties and projects.
- Perform basic electrical work including changing light fixtures, replacing outlets and switches, resetting breakers, replacing ballasts, and troubleshooting minor electrical issues as directed.
- Assist with load sharing across grounds, housekeeping, set-ups, overtime, and special events as required.
- Obey all safety rules, policies and procedures set by the school, which may be modified from time to time.
- Must be willing to work overtime with sufficient notice and/or in emergency cases when sufficient notice is not possible.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures for reporting absences, in advance of shift.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Collaboration
- Cooperate with other staff within the department and other department personnel in completing assigned tasks.
- Assist in the preparation and support of special events as needed.
- Interact with school community members in a professional manner.
- Report all malfunctioning infrastructure, furnishings, and safety hazards to supervisors to ensure a smooth hand-off to the following shift.
- Work closely with security personnel to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of experience in the building maintenance and construction field.
- A thorough knowledge and understanding of established best management practices within the building maintenance industry.
- Experienced in the proper methods used in carpentry, plumbing, painting, pressure washing, minor electrical repair and renovation/alteration of buildings and structures.
- Ability to safely operate power equipment, power tools, motor vehicles and powered utility carts.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Possess good communication skills.
- Hold a valid and current Florida driver’s license.
- Demonstrate ability to comprehend and perform all tasks assigned.
Physical Demands: Ability to perform strenuous physical activities for sustained periods of time including: lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead and carrying heavy objects and/or equipment. Ability to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time. Exert maximum muscle force and capability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support lifting up to 50 pounds or more repeatedly or continuously without limitation.
Work Environment: Ability to work in inclement and variable weather conditions for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
