E. C. Korneffel Co. is a marine, bridge, and piling contractor based in Trenton, Michigan, serving clients since 1950. The company provides heavy civil construction services from the design and bid phase through project completion and owner acceptance.

About the Role

The Project Manager / Engineer oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil construction projects, serving as a key liaison between office operations and field teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage projects from kickoff through completion, including planning, scheduling, and execution
  • Coordinate job strategies, materials, manpower, equipment, and subcontractors
  • Serve as a primary point of communication between office staff, field teams, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Conduct regular jobsite visits to monitor progress, address issues, and support field operations
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including budgets, schedules, subcontracts, purchase orders, COIs, lien notices, and submittals
  • Maintain accurate and organized project records throughout the project lifecycle
  • Support field teams with RFIs, scope changes (extras), and material quantity tracking
  • Assist with project financials including subcontractor pay estimates, billings, and cost tracking
  • Collaborate with CAD and engineering teams on drawings and project implementation
  • Review geotechnical reports and soil borings to support planning and execution
  • Evaluate site and soil conditions for piling, drilling, and related work
  • Support field implementation of design drawings following project award

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in heavy civil construction (piling, drilling, marine, or bridge work preferred)
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and field operations
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and geotechnical reports
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Frequent travel to active construction sites
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Walking on uneven terrain and climbing as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Occasional Saturdays based on project needs
