About this role

Responsible for analyzing financial information of cash, cash equivalent, and investment accounts activities including reconciliation, analysis and reporting for the College in accordance with established policies and procedures. Reconciles bank statements, investment accounts, and cash operating accounts, supports internal and external audits, and independently prioritizes work to meet the College’s needs.

What a day of an Accounting Specialist looks like:

  • Reconciles all bank statement accounts including manual bank reconciliation, recording bank statements and recording monthly interests.

  • Responds to complex inquiries from all levels of employees or external sources regarding a variety of questions.

  • Reviews available bank balances, requests and submit transfers. Ensures timely and accurate bank reconciliations in Workday.

  • Creates Ad Hoc Bank transactions for bank statement lines and reviews Ad Hoc Bank Transaction templates to ensure accuracy and consistency.

  • Reviews and analyzes credit card transactions for reconciliation and discrepancies.

  • Designs and maintains complex routine spreadsheets, set up routine formulas and functions with some links.

  • Develops and prepares various reports to support the analysis of bank statements, banking records, interest transactions, banking activities and other financial data reviews.

  • Assists in the testing of new or changed end-user products in an integrated systems environment.

  • Liaisons among departments, functions, or groups, within and outside the College and communicates information through various methods to appropriate personnel and others.

  • Attends workshops, seminars, or conferences to maintain current knowledge of field.

  • Maintains electronic filing system, saves and retrieves records and files, and scans documents into the system.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree and two years of related experience; OR High school diploma or GED and four years of related experience.

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application

Skilled in:

  • Double-entry bookkeeping management

  • Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management

  • Delivering an elevated level of customer service

  • Resolving conflicts between individual needs and requirements of the organization

  • Performing with a high degree of accuracy

  • Advanced level Microsoft Excel

Ability to:

  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations, and take responsibility for an elevated level of service

  • Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of faculty, staff, and the public

  • Organize and prioritize multiple competing priorities to maximize personal and team effectiveness

  • Research information for problem solving

  • Process complex problems encountered using knowledge acquired through training and experience

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

  • Regular physical attendance required

  • Bookkeeping with specialization in fund accounting

  • Workday or cloud-based ERP system
