About this role
Responsible for the leadership and administration of safety activities and services. Creates and implements workplace health and safety plans and procedures. Ensures that the college possesses an ideal and safe work environment to protect the health of the college community and visitors. Designs emergency response plans that will minimize harm to the College community and promote disaster recovery. Identifies safety risks to the College and its physical and human assets; and undertakes measures to minimize the probability of their occurrence and impacts.What a day of a Health and Safety Manager looks like:
Develops, facilitates, and coordinates training programs to promote safe practices. Implements a robust employee training program for environmental health and safety initiatives. Participates in employee onboarding to include overview of procedures and policies.
Investigates accidents and incidents resulting in injury to determine root causes and establishes measures to prevent recurrence, promote safety awareness and improve safety performance. Investigates reported safety, environmental accidents and indoor air-quality issues. Identifies, develops, and conducts future safety hazard and prevention training to reduce the risk injuries or incidents.
Evaluates and ensures procedures for compliance with federal state, local institutional laws, and regulations. Monitors changes in state and Federal laws and rules that affect the operation of the College, reviews College policies and procedures, and drafts revisions and new policies or procedures as required.
Recruits and trains all campus Emergency Coordinators with the review and approval of the Security and Risk Director. Coordinates, tracks, and records all campus drills, dates, and communications. Conducts pre- and post-mortem campus drill reviews and maintains logs.
Conducts required safety inspections with emphasis on both OSHA, EPA and 69A−58 Florida Administrative Code requirements related to facilities, staff, and faculty.
Works closely with the Risk Manager to promote safety and reduce risk. Acts as lead agent and college liaison to the Palm Beach County Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
Manages and tracks the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Oversees the disposal of hazardous, waste and bio-hazardous materials.
Travels to training workshops, conferences, meetings, and professional association events between campuses and outside of college locations. Maintains current knowledge of field or profession.
Conducts ergonomic evaluations, recommendations and follow ups. Develops analysis of ergonomic risk factors. Identifies and documents contributing ergonomic risk factors. Develops procedures to provide direction on and ensure awareness of ergonomic concerns.
Develops, implements, and monitors the compliance of any pandemic or disaster response plans. Updates annually the college’s District Emergency Operations Plan (DEOP) and the college’s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP).
Inspect equipment for unsafe workplace conditions. Monitor employee conformity to safety laws and policies. Suggest solutions, improvements, and prevention steps for safety issues. Coordinates corrective actions to resolve non-compliances.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree
Four years of related experience
Knowledge of:
Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications
Health and safety laws, regulations, and guidelines
Skilled in:
Planning, forecasting, setting objectives and determining courses of action
Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management
Research and data analysis to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations and plans of action
Managing and resolving conflict in a positive manner
Incident investigation
Ability to:
Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations, and take responsibility for a high level of service
Research information for problem solving
Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:
Regular physical attendance required

The minimum base pay for this position starts at $67,885.00 annual salary; however, the offer may vary based on the candidate’s education and experience.
