About this role
Under general direction, responsible for performing a variety of complex and technical tasks related to applications administration and user operational duties in support of academic application systems. This includes Online Learning Management platforms, web portals, and related instructional technologies. Responds to and resolves software users inquiries and technical issues.What a day of an Online Technology Specialist looks like:
Provides complex and technical support to faculty and students using Online Learning Management platforms, web portals, and other instructional technologies.
Maintains, modifies, customizes, upgrades, and troubleshoots assigned academic application systems and technologies to meet user needs and ensure availability and access to applications and technologies.
Collaborates with faculty and staff on maintaining portal communications, content, and usage. Develops portal channels, applications, and communications tools.
Interviews, analyzes, and documents end user needs, requests, and systems requirements. Develops proposed solutions and action plans.
Coordinates solutions with information technology project teams, including participating in planning, organizing, and implementing project schedules, requirements, methods, and objectives in consultation with end users.
Coordinates project activities with team members, other staff, user representatives, and outside vendors.
Provides support and guidance to faculty and staff on using and operating academic application systems and technologies, ensuring effective implementation of instructional tools and services.
Assists users with application systems and operational questions or problems. Escalates problems or issues to vendor representatives or other information technology staff as needed.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Associate's degree and four years of related experience; or high school diploma or GED and six years of related experience
Knowledge of:
Online Course Management systems (i.e., Canvas or similar)
Troubleshooting and resolving issues in browser-based applications and platforms
Principles of issue escalation and user support
Instructional technologies and best practices in online education
Basic HTML and web publishing practices
Microsoft Office 365 suite or similar applications
Skilled in:
Analyzing technical issues and identifying root causes
Prioritizing and managing multiple tasks and deadlines
Communicating with technical support and working collaboratively on cross-departmental projects
Creative thinking and problem solving to explore new technology, processes, and approaches
Managing educational tools and systems
Ability to:
Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations, and take responsibility for a high level of service
Work independently while also contributing to team-based projects
Clearly and concisely document technical issues, troubleshooting solutions, and system configurations
Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public
Learn and adapt to new technologies quickly and efficiently

The minimum base pay for this position starts at $22.88 per hour; however, the offer may vary based on the candidate’s education and experience.
