Assistant Professor of Health and Human Performance
SUMMARY
In support of the university’s mission and objectives, the Assistant/Associate Professor of Health and Human Performance will teach undergraduate courses in areas such as biomechanics, clinical exercise methodology, research methods, fitness assessment, exercise prescription, and health and wellness promotion. Responsibilities also include contributing to curriculum and program development, advising students, and participating in departmental, university, and community service.
The position may include overseeing student internships and maintaining relationships with site mentors. Candidates are expected to develop a research program that involves undergraduates, ideally in areas related to functional movement, human and exercise physiology, biochemistry, or kinesiology. The department offers access to well-equipped biomechanics, physiology, and sports medicine labs, with additional opportunities for collaboration across disciplines like biology, health professions, and pharmacy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teach 12 credit hours a semester within the HHP department
- Provide teaching and instruction in relevant HHP courses suited to their academic and professional strengths.
- Responsible for designing and updating course materials in assigned academic courses
- Responsible for and actively participate in processes of curriculum design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation.
- Provide student academic advising (after 1 year of service) to HHP majors and minors.
- Maintain up-to-date-knowledge in academic areas and apply knowledge to relevant coursework and assignments
- Oversee student external internships
- Oversee undergraduate student research projects
Engage in University and professional development activities
- Participate in School (SEBS) and University committees.
- Participate in local, state and national professional organizations to ensure program excellence and appropriateness of curriculum and instruction.
- Maintain relevant accreditations and certifications from relevant professional organizations (ACSM, NSCA, NASM, FASEB)
- Participation in accreditation activities and monitoring
- Participate in student recruitment and applicant selection for admissions
Maintain an active research agenda with a focus on mentoring undergraduate students in research work.
- Maintain a working knowledge of developments in an area(s) of expertise and research methodologies
- Produce research that is worthy of acceptance into professional peer reviewed publications productivity.
- Participate in local, regional or national organization meeting relevant to interest and research areas
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- An earned doctorate in kinesiology, physiology, biomechanics or a related allied health discipline
EXPERIENCE
- 3+ years of experience teaching and other relevant, health-related experience. Experience with online or hybrid teaching formats is a plus.
- Strong analytical and communication skills are an essential element of the position.
- Requires strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and align across a wide variety of people.
