Director of Worship

SUMMARY

In support of the university’s mission and objectives, the Director of Worship provides strategic leadership, creative direction, and oversight for all worship experiences on campus. This role is responsible for envisioning, planning, executing worship services that are spiritually enriching, engaging, and culturally relevant. This leader develops and disciples student worship teams, manages the worship schedule, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to create a vibrant and impactful worship experience.

Worship Strategy and Creative Leadership:

  • Provides visionary leadership in developing the academic year and summer worship schedule/calendar.
  • Recruits, develops, and mentors student worship leaders for involvement in Chapel, Anchor, and other campus events.
  • Curates worship sets and carefully considers how it integrates with the event, message, worship team ability, and style-of-worship preferences of the student body.
  • Trains, leads, and manages the student worship teams, chapel volunteers, and others who assist with chapel and worship opportunities on and off campus. Helping them to grow as worship leaders, musicians, and artists.
  • Oversees the creative design of chapel services, including production, lighting, and multimedia elements, ensuring a seamless and meaningful experience.
  • Programs worship elements for other departmental such as admission recruitment days, welcome weeks, and special services.
  • Manages multiple event deadlines, providing organizational oversight to worship team participation across various events throughout the week.

Operations:

  • Coordinates all aspects of worship programming and special events, including guest worship leaders, worship teams, production, student volunteers, and student workers.
  • Oversees all screen materials used in worship sets such as lyrics, scripture, images, and videos.
  • Supports chapel staff on a regular basis in areas such as attendance monitoring and event troubleshooting.
  • Secures venues for rehearsals and communicates with the necessary stakeholders prior to chapel services or chapel-related events.
  • Submits and tracks all media and technical support requests with attention to details and follow-through.
  • Supports the broader Spiritual Life team and aids with student correspondence throughout the year.

Spiritual Leadership:

  • Provides consistent discipleship and pastoral care for worship team members, investing in their holistic development.
  • Mentors members of the worship teams providing guidance, discipleship, prayer, to cultivate spiritual growth and development.
  • Partners with the Spiritual Life team to define and enforce conduct requirements for students on the student worship teams.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Manages team scheduling using Planning Center or similar platforms, ensuring consistency and clarity in the execution of events.
  • Oversees the creation of all graphics to be displayed during services ensuring timely submission for department approval.
  • Acts as the primary liaison between Spiritual Life Creative Services, Family Church production, and any other third-party production team.
  • Identifies and submits equipment requests to ensure excellent service.

Equipment and Inventory:

  • Oversees the maintenance, use, and inventory of musical instruments (drums, monitors, speakers, etc.).
  • Encourages excellence and responsibility in the use of resources entrusted to the worship ministry.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in Ministry, Worship, Leadership, Music Performance, or a related field, required.

EXPERIENCE:

5+ years of experience in worship ministry and production, including the tools and software that support the worship experience. Audio production knowledge and troubleshooting ability, required. Must have proficient musical skill/knowledge and must be able to train others in their musical ability. Experience with DAWs, VSTs, ProPresenter, Planning Center Services, preferred.
