ABOUT HEDRICK BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION

Hedrick Brothers Construction is a premier commercial general contractor headquartered in West Palm Beach, Florida, with an office in Winter Park and a team of more than 215 professionals. Now in our 47th year, we’ve spent more than four decades building more than buildings — we’ve built relationships, trust, and a culture grounded in GRIT: Growth, Resourcefullness, Integrity, and Team. Our people are the foundation of everything we do, and we’re looking for a leader who will protect, grow, and elevate that foundation as we continue to scale.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As our Director of People & Culture, you shape how Hedrick Brothers grows, leads, and prepares for the future. Positioned at the intersection of business, people, organization, and culture, you ensure that our growth ambitions are both humanly sustainable and future-ready. This is a proactive, forward-looking role with real impact on HBC’s long-term success — not a traditional HR seat. You’ll own the full employee lifecycle, serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership, and act as the architect of the culture that makes this company different.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Strategic Leadership & Organizational Vision

  • Build and execute an integrated people strategy aligned with HB’s long-term business goals and growth plan.
  • Translate business needs into workforce planning, organizational design, and strategic HR initiatives that scale with the company.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees on all people, culture, and organizational matters.
  • Advise on operations personnel movement, promotions, reorganizations, and succession planning.
  • Provide market intelligence on compensation trends, talent availability, and industry shifts to inform hiring and retention decisions.

Talent Acquisition & Full-Cycle Hiring

  • Run full-cycle recruiting across the organization — from sourcing and interviewing to offer negotiation and hire.
  • Own our employer brand and represent HB at career fairs, university partnerships, and industry events.
  • Partner with hiring managers to define roles, calibrate candidate pipelines, and deliver qualified talent on a competitive timeline.
  • Advise leadership on new hires with current market data on compensation, availability, and competitor positioning.

Onboarding, Training & Development

  • Oversee onboarding to ensure every new hire is set up to succeed from day one — partnering with our HR & Recruiting Coordinator on execution.
  • Partner with the Talent & Culture Specialist to create and own a full 90-day onboarding experience that includes weekly check-ins, a single central point of contact for every new hire, and a thorough, seamless experience from day one to day 90.
  • Design and implement performance management processes that drive accountability, growth, and retention.
  • Develop and implement ongoing learning programs tied to our Social Contract, Fundamentals and Keys to Success, EOS, GRIT values, project management best practices, and safety.
  • Partner with department heads to identify skill gaps and create targeted training plans for their teams.
  • Measure training impact through feedback, performance data, and ROI analysis.

Culture, People Development & Employee Experience

  • Champion the HB culture — serving as the guardian of our GRIT values across every office, jobsite, and team.
  • Lead people development initiatives that identify high-potential employees, close competency gaps, and build bench strength.
  • Navigate in-office dynamics and employee relations matters with discretion, fairness, and sound judgment.
  • Serve as a strategic partner on escalated employee relations issues, handling confidential matters with maximum integrity.

Compensation, Compliance & HR Operations

  • Oversee compensation strategy, including annual market analysis, pay equity, and leadership-level bonus structures.
  • Ensure compliance across all federal, state, and local employment regulations — including EEOC, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, and OSHA-related HR obligations.
  • Lead HR budgeting and serve as a contributing member of broader financial planning conversations.
  • Leverage HR analytics and workforce data to diagnose trends, influence leadership decisions, and improve engagement and retention.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

This role calls for a leader who wears several hats simultaneously:

Strategic Advisor

  • Deep business acumen; able to link people strategy to business performance.
  • Trusted influencer and coach to senior leaders; persuasive communicator who drives action.
  • Brings the voice of the team member into decision-making and culture-building.

Capability Builder

  • Assesses and strengthens organizational and leadership capability across functions.
  • Supports the development of future-ready teams through learning, coaching, and talent programs.
  • Develops HR solutions informed by data, contemporary practices, and workforce trends.

Experience Creator

  • Designs and delivers people-first strategies that foster an inclusive, high-performing culture.
  • Creates experiences that engage, retain, and develop top talent at all levels.
  • Champions authenticity, humility, integrity, and collaboration in every interaction.

People Reader

  • Has a sixth sense for people — reads intent, body language, and first impressions with precision.
  • Instinctively knows whether someone is a long-term fit for HBC and aligns with our culture.
  • Protects the team by ensuring every hire strengthens the culture, not just fills a seat.

Values-Driven Leader

  • Serves others with humility and a genuine care for the people behind the work.
  • Comfortable leading in a values-driven, faith-informed workplace culture.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior or executive-level role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling HR functions in a growth-stage or mid-sized company.
  • Deep experience across the full HR discipline: talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation, performance management, HR analytics, and employee engagement.
  • Exceptional judgment with confidential matters and the ability to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics with discretion.
  • Proven ability to influence, negotiate, and build consensus at all levels — from the field to the C-suite.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to translate business strategy into people strategy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred

  • Construction, real estate development, engineering, or AEC industry experience.
  • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent senior HR certification.
  • Experience leading HR through an EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) framework.
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms and modern talent acquisition tools.
  • Master’s degree in HR, Business, or Organizational Leadership.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Consistent attendance is a job requirement.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours when required to support business operations.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive executive compensation package, including base salary, performance bonus, and benefits.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) with company contribution.
  • Paid time off, holidays, and company-sponsored events.
  • A seat at the leadership table and the opportunity to leave a real legacy on a company that’s built to last.
