OVERVIEW:

The Packaging Mechanic B is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and supporting packaging and production equipment within the Distribution Center. This position works primarily on the production floor and ensures machinery operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. The role requires basic mechanical knowledge, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on packaging and production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system issues.
  • Use gauges, indicators, and diagnostic tools to identify equipment problems.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
  • Inspect equipment and recommend corrective actions to prevent breakdowns.
  • Utilize common mechanic hand tools and equipment to complete assigned tasks.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Support production operations by responding to equipment issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain excellent attendance and flexibility to work weekends, holidays, shift rotations, and off-shift schedules as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of mechanical experience required; 2 years preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of:
    • Mechanical systems and tools of the trade
    • Hydraulic systems
    • Pneumatic systems
    • Gauges and other indicator systems
  • Safety experience and familiarity with OSHA standards.
  • Must possess common mechanic tools.
  • Must successfully pass the mandatory Scientific Management Test.

Working Conditions

  • Works 100% of the time on the production floor.
  • Frequently required to stand for extended periods.
  • May work from ladders, scaffolds, and in elevated areas.
  • Exposure to dusty, dirty, hot, wet, noisy, and confined work environments.
  • May work in ditches, cramped spaces, and other challenging industrial conditions.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the job.
