The basic science courses engage students in active, participatory learning that integrates medical knowledge, clinical skills, habits of self-directed learning, and diagnostic reasoning skills with a small group, problem-based learning (PBL) approach. Student activities include case-based discussions, workshops, lectures, and laboratory work. Our integrated basic science curriculum is structured by organ systems and clinical presentations, ensuring that basic sciences and clinical skills are concurrently taught during the first two years.

- Assist with preparation and administration of exams and other assessments as requested.
- Participate in course grading committees and assist with course remediation as needed.
- Direct or co-direct one or more designated curriculum courses, threads, programs and/or content areas.
- Teach in other areas of the curriculum aligned with experience. Examples include classroom and small group teaching in the Year 1 and 2 Foundations of Medicine courses, the Year 3 Synthesis and Transition course and Academic Half-Day sessions, and the Year 4 Transition to Residency course.
- As opportunities arise, serve as an instructor in COM graduate programs in fields of expertise.
- Participate in faculty/facilitator meetings and faculty development sessions.
- Advise and mentor medical students as well as graduate students and residents, as applicable.
- Actively engage in continuous quality improvement efforts to ensure that the curriculum meets LCME accreditation standards.
- Serve on College of Medicine and University committees as required or requested.
- Conduct scholarly work related to medical education, applicable basic science or clinical disciplines, or another area of interest.
