Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Director for Prestigious Fellowships - Boca Raton, FL.

The Assistant Director reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Research and Prestigious Fellowships and leads campus‑wide efforts to identify, recruit, and advise students and alumnae from all majors for nationally and internationally competitive fellowship opportunities. This role collaborates closely with faculty and staff across campuses to build a supportive culture around pursuing fellowships, increase awareness of available programs, and highlight FAU student achievements. The Assistant Director also serves as a key liaison with external foundation and grant agencies.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a current strategic plan for external fellowships to align with the variability of opportunities nationally and internationally through the National Association of Fellowships Advisors (NAFA).

  • Identify, recruit, and track potential fellowship candidates. This includes targeted recruitment of high-achieving student groups (e.g., National Merit Scholars, NSF LEARN, University Honors Program, WHC, FAU High, etc.).

  • Advise students and review application materials to support submissions.

  • Collaborate with campus partners to build awareness of the Office of Prestigious Fellowships and its services.

  • Recruit outstanding faculty, staff, and alumni to serve on committees to select FAU student nominees for national and international fellowship competitions.

  • Liaise with the Prestigious Fellowship Advisory Committee.

  • Supervise Graduate Assistant in the Office of Prestigious Fellowships.

  • Act as institutional representative and manage the nomination and application process for the following fellowships with nomination processes: Goldwater and Truman.

  • Collaborate with campus advisors for other national fellowships, including Fulbright, Boren, Gilman, Marshall, Rhodes, and Udall.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with external scholarship and fellowship foundations and agencies and participate with NAFA and other venues to establish best practices.

  • Collaborate with the Office of the Provost to recognize fellowship recipients at the annual Honors Convocation and with the Office of Public Affairs to publicize FAU nominees and fellowship recipients.

  • Conduct annual evaluations to ensure alignment with the University’s strategic plan.

  • Update resources and programming as necessary to develop student skills and increase their competitiveness for awards.

  • Develop and maintain web content, including the Prestigious Fellowships website and Canvas course.

  • Represents the department on committees as appropriate.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience required.

Preferred Skills:

Experience in advising, mentoring, and supporting student application to fellowships opportunities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Must have excellent customer service skills.

Preferred Education:
Master's degree.

Salary:

$60,000.00 - $64,000.00 annually.
