Position Summary:

The College of Business at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Graduate Academic Advisor - Boca Raton, FL.

The FAU College of Business is one of the largest AACSB-accredited colleges of business in the United States with more than 8,000 students. The college has seven departments and an impressive offering of degree programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels (including Ph.D.) as well as many online, executive, and certificate programs. The Graduate Academic Advisor will provide specialized academic advising services to graduate business students and assist with recruitment efforts for the traditional graduate programs. The advisor will deliver tailored academic guidance and assist students in the development of an education plan, including choosing a program of study and/or clarifying educational and professional goals.

Individualized Academic Advising:

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge about the College’s programs, requirements, and admission.

  • Advises students about the courses and requirements for each traditional degree program.

  • Oversees and recruits for our College of Business Ambassador program.

  • Provides direct support to Assistant Director and Assistant Dean.

  • Assists Assistant Director with admission reviews and decisions.

  • Promotes, recruits, and responds to inquiries to gain prospective students’ interests in traditional graduate programs.

  • Participates in student recruitment and onboarding activities for on and off campus events, including campus visits, college fairs, informational sessions, and classroom visits.

  • Informs students about alternatives, limitations, and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding, dropping, withdrawing, change of major, attempts).

  • Educates students about course planning and registration processes and refers to available resources to meet individual needs including career and personal development.

  • Makes appropriate referrals to students perceived as at-risk, needs to be put on Academic Progression Plan, and acts as an advocate as appropriate.

  • Develops and maintains operating procedures that minimize the likelihood and impact of errors.

  • Monitors student academic plans to provide timely, proactive outreach to ensure degree progress and timely graduation using defined learning outcomes.

  • Monitor admissions statuses to provide decisions and communication to prospective students.

  • Reinforces and supports student degree progress, academic success, and retention, in alignment with university strategic goals and initiatives.

  • Participates in individual and team professional development and remains current with technology used to provide advising services.

  • Performs other job-related duties as required to support the academic mission of the college.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization required

Preferred Qualification and Skills

Higher education experience within admissions or academic advising

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with students

A track record of successfully navigating professional environments

Exceptional organizational skills

Salary:

$55,000 per year.
