Position Summary:

The School of Communication and Multimedia Studies (SCMS) in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Film and Media Studies. This position requires research and teaching strengths in film and media studies. We are also particularly interested in scholars whose research engages with digital studies, critical data studies, and transnational/diasporic media. We seek a candidate who complements the offerings of the School. The position includes teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level. We offer a Masters in Communication and Media Studies and an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Comparative Studies. We seek a candidate who will balance high-quality scholarship, excellence in teaching, and committed service. Faculty typically teach a 3-2 course schedule.

Candidates must be able to teach courses in some combination of the following areas: society and technology; film and media theory; sexuality and media; and/or digital media. Summary of Responsibilities:

  • The new hire will be responsible to the School Director.
  • Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative
  • activities.
  • The new hire may represent the School, college, and/or university, on college, university and/or Statewide committees.
  • The new hire may contribute to the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters Interdisciplinary Ph. D. program in Comparative Studies.
  • If appropriate to the hire’s research, the new hire may contribute to FAU’s existing Certificate Programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a PhD in Film or Media Studies, or related field, at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant teaching experience at the college level, publication record in the field.
