Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University's Center for Connected Autonomy and AI (CA-AI) is seeking a Signal Processing Engineer - Boca Raton, FL.

This is a one-year position, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and evaluation.

This position will help to advance the design, development, and experimental validation of wireless communication and sensing systems. The position centers on the development of next-generation wireless technologies—acoustic, optical, and RF—supporting applications in ocean monitoring, robotics, and autonomy.

You will join cross-disciplinary research teams working on prototype systems that integrate acoustic modems, sensor arrays, signal processing algorithms, and AI-enabled control into autonomous platforms such as unmanned aerial, surface and underwater vehicles (UAVs/USVs/UUVs). Your work will span algorithm development, simulation, and embedded implementation, with opportunities to transition concepts from the laboratory to field trials in coastal and offshore environments.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and evaluate signal processing algorithms for acoustic, RF, mmWave and hybrid wireless systems (acoustic/optical/RF).

  • Develop real-time communication and localization protocols for autonomous platforms operating in challenging, bandwidth-limited, and multipath-dominated channels.

  • Conduct modeling and simulation of propagation, noise/interference conditions, and channel variability to guide system performance expectations.

  • Implement algorithms on embedded and edge devices (SDRs, FPGAs, and low-power microcontrollers) for deployment in mobile and fixed platforms.

  • Lead laboratory experiments and contribute to at-sea testing, including system deployment, operation, and recovery.

  • Collaborate with faculty, graduate/undergraduate researchers, and external partners (industry, AFRL, DIU, NSF) to drive innovation in underwater wireless connectivity.

  • Document and communicate results through technical publications, proposals, and conference presentations.

  • Job-related duties as assigned.
