Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University (Boca Raton campus) and the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies (SCMS) announces a full-time, renewable instructor position in multimedia journalism practice with an anticipated start date of August 2026. Instructor contracts are nine-month contracts and are renewable based on satisfactory performance; after five full years, continuously employed full-time instructors become eligible to apply in their 6th year for promotion to Senior Instructor status.

The successful candidate will teach four journalism practice courses per semester, such as introductory and advanced news reporting, coverage of public affairs, and multimedia journalism. In addition, the successful candidate will run the SCMS newsroom course, MediaLab@FAU, a faculty-led community news initiative that works with South Florida news industry partners including WLRN, the Palm Beach Post, the South Florida Sun Sentinel, and the Miami Herald to publish student work, a recent recipient of a Press Forward grant.

Minimum Qualifications:

Earned MA, in journalism along with substantial multimedia news reporting experience is required by the effective date of employment, August 2026, from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
MFA or PhD (ABD) in journalism along with substantial multimedia news reporting experience is required by the effective date of employment, August 2026, from an accredited institution. Relevant teaching experience at the college level with a publication/print/broadcast record in the field. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in classroom and hands-on instruction and experience working with student journalists or leading editorial projects.

Transcripts:
The selected candidate for this position is required to submit an official transcript sent directly from the institution for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment. Similarly, for degrees from outside the United States, the evaluation by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts) is required for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment. Transcripts must be issued to Florida Atlantic University, not to the individual applicant.
