Position Summary:

The School of Communication and Multimedia Studies Program (SCMS) is seeking an Instructor with a focus in Rhetorical Studies and Civic Discourse to support its popular Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. The teaching load is 8 courses per year, with summer teaching often possible on a separate contract. The ideal candidate will have a rhetorical approach to undergraduate courses concerned with communication, civic life, and culture. Teaching options are flexible based on candidate’s area of specialization, but the candidate would be able to teach courses such as: Introduction to Communication and Civic Life, Classical Rhetorical Theory, Rhetoric of Argument, Argumentation and Debate, Persuasion, and Rhetorical Criticism. Graduate teaching options are occasionally available, but the bulk of teaching would be in support of the BA program. The effective date of employment is August 2026. This is a non-tenure track Instructor position, which is renewable annually based on job performance. After five years of full-time, satisfactory employment, Instructors are eligible in their sixth year to apply for promotion to Senior Instructor and thereafter to the position of University Instructor. FAU's School of Communication and Multimedia Studies includes a Communication Studies B.A. program with approximately 1600 majors and a two-year M.A. program.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to teach 8 course load (4/4), with summer teaching often possible on a separate contract.
  • Responsible for teaching and service activities.
  • May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees.

Minimum Qualifications:

Earned a Ph.D. from a Communication related program by the time of application; demonstrated excellence in teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in hand. Applicants with at least two years of teaching experience.
