Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Undergraduate Academic Advisor I - Boca Raton, FL.

The College of Business is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Undergraduate Academic Advisor I to join our dynamic advising team. This role plays a vital part in supporting student success by providing proactive, informed, and compassionate academic guidance to undergraduate students pursuing business degrees.

The Academic Advisor will maintain current knowledge of the College’s academic programs and requirements, and will advise students on course selection, degree planning, and transfer pathways. They will help students understand the implications of academic decisions, such as adding or dropping courses, changing majors, or withdrawing, while promoting informed choices that support timely graduation and career readiness.

This position is ideal for individuals passionate about student advocacy, academic success, and contributing to the mission of FAU and the College of Business.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge about the College’s programs and requirements.

  • Advises students about the courses and requirements for degree programs and/or transfer requirements for a particular program of study.

  • Informs students about alternatives, limitations, and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g., adding, dropping, withdrawing, changing of major, attempts).

  • Educates students about course planning and registration processes and refers to available resources to meet individual needs, including career and personal development.

  • Makes appropriate referrals to students perceived as at-risk and acts as an advocate as appropriate.

  • Develops and maintains operating procedures that minimize the likelihood and impact of errors.

  • Monitors student academic plans to provide timely, proactive outreach to ensure degree progress and timely graduation using defined learning outcomes.

  • Reinforces and supports student degree progress, academic success, and retention in alignment with the university's strategic goals and initiatives.

  • Participates in student recruitment and onboarding activities for on-- and off-campus events, and assists with orientation programs.

  • Participates in individual and team professional development and remains current with technology used to provide advising services.

  • Performs other job-related duties as required to support the academic mission of the college.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and up to one year of advising or appropriate experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Higher education experience within admissions or academic advising.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with students.

A track record of successfully navigating professional environments.

Exceptional organizational skills.

Salary:

$55,000 per year.

COB: Student Academic Services Undergraduate Division.

Location:

Boca Raton

Work Days and Hours:

Monday to Friday 8 AM to 5 PM, occasional weeknights/weekends as required.
