Position Summary:

The Department of Languages, Linguistics and Comparative Literature at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for an Instructor to teach all levels of Hebrew, especially Beginning and Intermediate. The selected candidate may also teach Hebrew and Jewish literatures in translation, Business Hebrew, or related coursework, depending on the candidate’s qualifications. The ideal candidate would have the ability to teach a second language (e.g. Arabic, Spanish, French, Italian) as needed, although it is not required by the position. As the hire is meant to support Jewish Studies, the hire may be asked to advance the program through appropriate levels of service in line with their expertise such as organizing a talk or film series or creating educational events for members of the university and surrounding community.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate administrator of a State university.
  • Responsible for teaching, service, and related administrative activities.
  • Responsible for program support efforts as needed.
  • May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have at least a Master’s degree and will have completed at least 18 graduate credits in Hebrew or a closely related field by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:
An M.A. or Ph.D. in Hebrew is strongly preferred. Prior experience in Hebrew language instruction at the university level, proficiency in using educational technology and online teaching tools, and experience constructing syllabi and course program development are preferred but not required.
