Position Summary:
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Professor in Voice and Speech. This 9-month tenure-earning faculty position will support the Department’s academic productions and course curriculum and be part of its multiple degree programs, including BA, BFA, and MFA degrees. This position will lead the voice and speech curriculum for all degree programs and teach acting classes at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
FAU is centrally located in the South Florida region in a vibrant and very active theatre and film community. The department produces seven shows per year in the academic unit and two shows through the Summer Repertory Theatre Program. It also offers substantial professional opportunities to faculty and students working closely with the resident professional theatre company partner on campus, Theater LAB. The theatre department offers seven majors and two minors at the B.A., B.F.A., and M.F.A. levels in Design and Technology, Performance, and Musical Theatre. The Department currently serves approximately 170 students a year, including approximately 30 Dance Minors, 20 BFA Musical Theatre majors, 20 BFA Performance Majors, 20 Design and Technology Majors, and approximately 70 general majors. The department produces our productions through our four theatre spaces on campus, including a newly renovated 500-seat proscenium theatre, our 150-seat black box theatre, and two smaller 80-seat black box theatres.

Summary of Responsibilities:
- Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate administrator of a State university.
- Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
- Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
- Direct and coach in the production program
- Maintain a current voice and speech curriculum
- May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees.
Minimum Qualifications:
• A Terminal degree from an accredited institution in Theatre with an academic emphasis in Voice and Speech, Acting, or Directing by the starting date of the appointment.• Professional experience in performance, stage direction, and/or voice and speech coaching.
• A minimum of four semesters of experience (part-time acceptable) teaching at the college or university level.
• Fosters and creates educational opportunities where all student populations thrive.
• Communication and Collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certification or near-completion in one or more of the many voice and speech methodologies (Linklater, Fitzmaurice, Knight-Thompson, etc.)
• An additional specialty in the performance of heightened text (Shakespeare, etc.).
