Under close supervision, this position performs semi-skilled and limited skilled work in the maintenance of streets, stormwater, and rights-of way maintenance. Employees may be assigned to one or several functions within the classification, depending upon the needs of the Department.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Performs semi-skilled work for jobs related to, maintenance and repair of stormwater and rights-of-way
- Performs limited skilled work in canals, streets, ditches, and ponds using first-level maintenance equipment
- Washes, cleans, and performs routine maintenance to equipment
- Operates pressure cleaning equipment, tractors, chain saws, trimmers, small trucks, and automotive equipment
- Assists in construction and maintenance activities, including, but not limited to ditch maintenance, stormwater system maintenance, and rights-of-way repair
- Assists in setting up barricades and other warning devices to channel traffic around construction areas or other hazards
- Stand-by and or after-hour duties may be required
- Prepares daily activity sheets and other documentation as required
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Groundskeeping and landscaping maintenance methods, practices, and procedures.
- Custodial operations, materials, and cleaning procedures.
- Tools, machinery, and equipment used in public works and municipal maintenance.
- Basic preventive maintenance for assigned equipment.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to maintenance work.
Skill in:
- Performing a variety of manual labor tasks safely and efficiently.
- Operating tools and equipment related to grounds, facilities, and infrastructure maintenance.
- Identifying and mitigating potential safety hazards.
- Working effectively in and around vehicular traffic and construction environments.
Ability to:
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Perform manual labor in varying weather conditions.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.
- Work independently or as part of a team to complete assigned projects.
Minimum Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum education of 8th grade or equivalent
Must possess or have the ability to obtain, within six (6) months of appointment, Florida Stormwater Association Stormwater Operator – Level I
Must possess or have the ability to obtain, within one (1) year of appointment, current Florida Department of Transportation Approved Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Intermediate Certification
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License (or obtain within fourteen (14) days of hire).
Preferred Qualifications:
Florida driver’s license with CDL (class B minimum) endorsement

Physical Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Duties:
This position involves moderate to heavy physical work performed outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to walk, climb, stand, stoop, dig, lift, push, and move heavy objects and materials from 20 to 50 pounds.
- Requires intermittent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects (100+ pounds)
- Tasks are performed in outdoor environment under all weather conditions with risk of exposure to vehicular traffic, noise, and exhaust fumes and working around open trenches and construction areas that involve the use of safety equipment such as reflective vests, hard hats, and safety shoes.
- Some tasks include working in and around moving vehicles where heightened awareness to surroundings and adherence to established safety precautions is essential to avoid injury/accidents.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and may sometimes be loud.
