Summary Objective

Summary Objective
Under close supervision, this position performs semi-skilled manual labor utilizing a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment to maintain municipal facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. Work involves general upkeep, repairs, and maintenance of public spaces to ensure safety, functionality, and aesthetic standards are met.

  • Operates various equipment including power mowers, weed eaters, edgers, clippers, chain saws, pole saws, demo saws, and other tools used in municipal maintenance.
  • Maintains municipal grounds by mowing, cleaning drainage ditches, installing fences and guardrails, trimming and removing trees, and laying sod.
  • Performs minor building repairs, including forming, pouring, and finishing concrete; patching potholes; and performing general facility upkeep.
  • Maintains and restocks cleaning and maintenance supplies as needed.
  • Operates light-duty trucks and other city vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Cleans and restores job sites to their original condition, which may include landscaping, raking, and sod replacement.
  • Works as part of a maintenance or repair crew as assigned.
  • Performs basic maintenance and cleaning of City vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum education of 8th grade or equivalent
One (1) year of experience in facility or grounds maintenance, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License (or obtain within fourteen (14) days of hire).
Preferred Qualifications:
Florida driver’s license with CDL (class B minimum) endorsement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:

  • Groundskeeping and landscaping maintenance methods, practices, and procedures.
  • Custodial operations, materials, and cleaning procedures.
  • Tools, machinery, and equipment used in public works and municipal maintenance.
  • Basic preventive maintenance for assigned equipment.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to maintenance work.
Skill in:
  • Performing a variety of manual labor tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Operating tools and equipment related to grounds, facilities, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Identifying and mitigating potential safety hazards.
  • Working effectively in and around vehicular traffic and construction environments.
Ability to:
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Perform manual labor in varying weather conditions.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.
  • Work independently or as part of a team to complete assigned projects.
