American Heritage Schools of Palm Beach Campus is currently looking to hire an Upper School (6th-12th grade) Media Specialist. Media Specialist Certificate is required for this position.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Librarian/Media Specialist, will help facilitate and maintain access for the students to resources, databases, and information within the Media Center. This position will help support both the students and teachers regarding research and information to be successful at completing and obtaining appropriate resources/tools for educational assignments.


PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with faculty and students

  • Contribute to the full multifunctional usage of the space for the entire school community

  • Develop and deliver a range of traditional and innovative library services that facilitate research and teaching

  • Promote and integrate library services, resources, and information literacy skills into academic class visits, orientations, workshops, and onsite encounters with students and faculty

  • Deliver instruction, using current and effective pedagogical theories, in a variety of formats: face-to-face, tutorials, synchronous online sessions, embedding in courses, etc.

  • Create active learning objects and web-based online support materials: LibGuides and Reference assistance FAQ's

  • Provide reference assistance/consultative services to students and faculty in various formats, in-person, email, new virtual formats

  • Communicate effectively to facilitate awareness of resources and services

  • Select resources for the collection in all formats (print, digital, databases) based on literacy trends for the grades being served in the media space.

  • Weeding and Collection Management - including working with vendors for new resource trials and maintaining the collection

  • Collection care - including book repairs

  • Oversee circulation of incoming returns and outgoing materials for students and teachers

  • Perform inventory at the conclusion of the school year for books

  • Collaborate and team with staff to manage and improve the daily operations of the Library Provide ongoing support to students and assist staff during Independent Study periods as requested including behavior management of students

  • Troubleshoot general technology issues

  • Manage the Library Catalog

SECONDARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Keep patrons informed with professional signage around the library about upcoming changes to schedule, bus information, special meetings, exams, etc.

  • Assist the Director of Educational Technology and Innovation to ensure media center space is prepared for Professional Development after reviewing the daily Media Center usage schedule and cross-checking with the master calendar.

  • Some simple admin work: answer phones, transfer calls, copy machine support, keeping the space clean, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Media Specialist Certification is required

  • 3+ years experience in the field

    • Including cataloging, lending models

    • Design and production of educational materials

  • Master’s degree preferred (Library Sciences, English)

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to facilitate and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

  • Ability to utilize educational technologies such as iPads, learning software, and basic word-processing software, and educational databases

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills

  • Prolonged periods of computer usage

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, and/or stooping

  • The ability to lift and move 25 lbs
