Summary:

The Monitoring Platform Architect is a senior technical leadership role responsible for defining and evolving the architecture of enterprise-scale monitoring platforms that power life safety, security, and real-time event response systems. This role serves as the primary architectural authority for broad coverage of monitoring as an area, ensuring systems are scalable, resilient, secure, and aligned with enterprise architecture and business objectives. The architect partners across Product, Engineering, Operations, and Security to design cloud-native, AI-enabled, and event-driven platforms that support mission-critical monitoring capabilities and deliver industry-leading uptime and performance.

The Monitoring Platform Architect will:

  • Direct influence on the architecture of ADT’s next-generation monitoring platform.
  • Enable delivery of proactive, predictive, and highly reliable life safety services.
  • Drive modernization, scalability, and innovation across Monitoring Product & Technology.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Define and own the end-to-end architecture for the monitoring platforms, including event ingestion, processing, orchestration, and response systems.
  • Lead the evolution from legacy monitoring systems to modern, cloud-native, microservices-based architectures.
  • Establish reference architectures, standards, and design patterns across monitoring systems.
  • Translate business and life safety requirements into scalable, technical solutions.
  • Architect high-availability, fault-tolerant systems capable of handling large-scale real-time event streams (e.g., IoT, alarms, video).
  • Design multi-region, resilient infrastructure leveraging cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Drive adoption of event-driven architectures, APIs, and asynchronous processing patterns.
  • Ensure systems meet strict performance targets (e.g., low-latency ingestion, high uptime SLAs).
  • Ensure architectural compliance with industry regulations, standards (e.g., UL), and security protocols.
  • Balance automation with human-in-the-loop workflows for alarm handling and incident response.
  • Enable integration of AI/ML capabilities for alarm classification, anomaly detection, and predictive monitoring.
  • Define architecture for data pipelines, real-time analytics, and observability.
  • Partner with Data Science and Analytics teams to productionize AI models within monitoring workflows.
  • Define and enforce platform-wide reliability standards (SLIs/SLOs for uptime, latency, resiliency).
  • Ensure observability through logging, monitoring, and alerting frameworks.
  • Drive incident management architecture, failover strategies, and disaster recovery plans.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to Product and Engineering leadership on platform strategy and tradeoffs.
  • Lead architecture reviews, design sessions, and technical governance forums.
  • Mentor senior engineers and architects, raising overall technical capability across teams.
  • Collaborate across DevOps, SecOps, IT, and Operations to ensure alignment and execution.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Deep knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
  • Strong experience with cloud-native platforms, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Expertise in real-time streaming systems, APIs, and large-scale data processing.
  • Understanding of AI/ML system integration and data pipelines.
  • Experience with monitoring systems, IoT ecosystems, or life safety platforms preferred.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, security standards, and mission-critical system design.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-aligned strategies.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder influence.
  • Strategic thinking with a focus on scalability, efficiency, and customer impact.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to design solutions for high-scale, high-reliability environments.
  • Proven ability to navigate ambiguity and drive clarity in complex systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, platform architecture, or distributed systems.
  • Proven experience designing and operating large-scale, cloud-native platforms.
  • Experience with mission-critical, high-availability systems (e.g., 99.99%+ uptime environments).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in security, monitoring, or IoT platforms.
  • Background in SaaS platforms.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML into production systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance environments (life safety, telecom, or emergency response).

Own the architecture of a high-scale, real-time platform processing massive event streams (IoT, video, alarms) that power life safety, security, and real-time event response systems. Lead cloud-native, event-driven systems leveraging microservices, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code, delivering low-latency, highly resilient, multi-region platforms with AI-enabled intelligence and mission-critical uptime.
